As part of its first initiative, in 2017, members of the organization collected used baseball equipment, 75 bicycles and various toys that would eventually be donated to children in the Dominican Republic. In addition, they conducted fundraisers so the aforementioned items could be shipped by container to the Dominican Republic where they would travel in Dec 2017 to deliver the donations in-person.
RBI HIT had the privilege of partnering with the Manny Mota Foundation to deliver the collected goods to children affiliated with the Manny Mota Foundation.

The need to go back...
After a very successful first trip, the boys returned home with a return trip already in mind. One of the most inspiring moments was visiting the all-girls orphanage in Boca Chica, and how little food they had. So, the group was determined to return as soon as possible with food and a more self-sustained approached.
After several months of fundraising, RBI HIT was able to acquire 20 pallets of rice, 40,000 packets of various vegetable seeds, agricultural boxes, bicycles, toys, school supplies, basketball and volleyball equipment, and of course, baseball equipment. Due to the generosity of several key donors, RBI HIT was able to fund shipping the second container in less than 6 months from the first container.
The importance of RBI HIT's 2nd trip in less than 8 months was in the vegetable seeds and agricultural boxes. RBI HIT shipped, built and planted agricultural boxes of various vegetables in impoverished communities for self-sustainability.

Dominican Republic Part III - The Baseball Field

Similar to the first two trips, we donated food, supplies and athletic equipment. We personally delivered food and some other essential sundries to over 100 family members in various rural towns in the Dominican Republic. We capped off our trip in 2019 with the construction of a baseball field on undeveloped land adjacent to an impoverished neighborhood.
The Passing of The Baton......

The founding students of RBI HIT are now freshmen in college and they have handed the reins over to a new set of high school freshmen at Palos Verdes High School to keep the mission alive. COVID delayed visits to the Dominican Republic over the past two years, but the boys visited the DR in 2022 and continued to help those in need. The boys visited Futuro Vivo Elementary School, met with impoverished families in rural Santo Domingo, helped tutor the Latin American players with English and American Culture and donated over 1,000 baseball related items to children in the surrounding area of the Dodger Training Facility.
